Tweak Your AdSense For That Extra Blog Money
Tweak Sense
Why is AdSense so popular among the majority of webmasters and bloggers? While most networks are most transparent about payment structures or Cost-Per-Click, AdSense is completely the opposite of that. Back years when AdSense was first introduced in the market there were numerous speculations that it will not work without them Google AdSense showing the publishers their "CPC" (The payment you receive for each click). While most networks offers the general webmasters and bloggers with their very own advertisement cap, Cost Per Mille (CPM or CPT) opportunities and Paypal based monthly payments, but they still could not compare themselves or come close claim there's are better.
AdSense lets you tweak your ad blocks quite unthinkably thus giving the publisher plenty of options to choose form. Sky Scraper, 300 pixel blocks or even 125x125 are some of the many formats of ad shapes available. As we know that Google also lets you use Image ads beside Text ads or both and choosing which kind of ads you choose to display on your blog makes a significant impact. To be successful with AdSense you have to discover what fits your blog or website the best. Part of it depends on the nature and age group of your visitors but there are other factors too. These other factors, although quite difficult, can and should be taken by you and me.
Dress to Impress:
AdSense lets you choose colors completely, its background and multiple palettes etc and more for you experiment until you find the perfect combo that suits your blog, the visitors and to yourself. While some say the default Blue is the best one and is what your visitors will click on the most, always and I mean always try to match, compliment blend. For example, if you have a blog on a light brown template then try to see if keeping the links dark chocolate, the texts black or dark gray (#666666) works for you or not. If it does not then go for pure black all the way for the links and the texts including the URL and in case that does not work then go for light brown on the links and dark chocolate on the texts. If nothing works then go for something subtle and eye-catching, even try to experiment with all white texts, links, URL etc while blending the background completely.
Positioning:
Always try to keep an ad block on top of your post and it will be even more lucrative if you can wrap texts around them. The bigger the ad, the more the revenue you will get and the more ads will appear on that block, thus, also slimming down your chances to get a click on a low paying ad. Typically it has been seen that ads on the left side, above the fold performs the best however it has been also noticed that 468x60 banners on top of the post have worked for some.
Size:
I typically find 336x280 blocks performing the best. However, this decisive part of the story depends on your observation because while comparing CPC, most webmaster tracks and assesses the channel based ad against yesterday. Always remember, today is going away already and yesterday is the past. To efficiently track the click's value always do a quick search in the overture tool or the Adwords CPC that day and the day before. While one click may have paid you 30 cents today for a 468x60 banner and for the same position it might have paid you 40 cents for a 336x280 ad block on the same position, does not mean that the next day for the 336x280 block you will be paid more or the same. With that being said, 468x60 block sucks and the 336x280 or 300x250 blocks are the best because when you tweak it to blend perfectly with text wrapping it around, it surely will look like part of the content.
Usually, 468x60 ads are blind-ish towards the general visitors and I will avoid them if I was you unless you have selected 468x60 image ads as well beside the general text ads. More the number of advertisers means that more the number of bids, thus more the value per click. So, if you notice that you cannot get your CTR or Click through Rate to increase at any cost, then turn on image ads to utilize the low number of bids by putting more weight to per click to get the highest return.
Focus Boy Focus:
Always try to keep your AdSense ads as the center of attention on a particular page. Keeping it above the fold does not always mean that you have done that. Be innovative with placement while keeping and respecting the policies and guidelines of AdSense in mind. Try to blend your link units on the top left of navigation vertically if your site navigation is located on the left vertically on the sidebar of navigation bar as a whole. Rather than putting a 468x60 banner advertisement on the top right on the header, move it to the top left and you will see that your click. When putting a 336x280 ad above the fold, always try to keep it clean and you will see how everyone gets drawn to the ad and clicks through. If you have a bad design for the site but superb content then do not change the template unless you find a web-2.0 similar one. A badly designed site with good content usually gets high CTR simply because visually AdSense text ads and image ads remains the center of attention for that site.
Conclusion:
Like everyone says, always track the results and choose good keywords, the ones you know are good about. Always write original content and do not make your pages go wildly cluttered with too many ads as it tends to take off the attention from AdSense. Always experiment and respect the AdSense guidelines and everyone will be better off after reading this article.
